Being able to take a paper pattern and adjust it to your body's unique shape is a lifelong skill. Then, we will take that pattern and learn how it becomes a well-loved wardrobe staple, in fabrics that feel like you.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou will learn practical sewing machine skills - how to thread a machine, how to control the speed, tension and different stitches. We will, of course, learn how to sew invisible zips (also called 'concealed zips' because they appear invisible from the outside of the clothing) - an extremely useful skill for both sewing and adjusting clothing you already own\/thrift. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe will discuss how and where to find fabrics. What suits you and what works well for different sewing patterns and techniques. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou will walk away from this course with the confidence to approach other sewing projects (even with zips!) and a new community of fellow makers - having shared yummy snacks and sewing successes and mistakes together.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAbsolute beginners are welcome and encouraged. I buy, pre-wash and iron this for you. This washing process pre-shrinks the fabric for you, so it won't shrink the first time you wash your boilersuit! You would need to do this yourself if you source your own fabric. All tickets include fabric for your 'wearable toile' (practice boilersuit) as well as all zips and thread. The per metre price is capped at 150SEK.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eCourse Dates \u0026amp; Structure\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eSeptember 2\u003c\/b\u003e - Welcome and meet your new sewing community with drinks and homemade snacks. We will discuss the different tools we need for both pattern making and sewing. We will learn how to measure ourselves and other people and how to adjust the paper pattern to fit these measurements. We also cover common changes you might want to make - including changing the trouser shape, adding buttons to the bodice instead of snap fasteners or adjusting the sleeves, for example. We will then make these adjustments to the paper pattern and begin cutting it out. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eSeptember 9\u003c\/b\u003e - The paper pattern may still need some final cutting, so we will start there. Then we will start cutting out our toile fabric. This will turn into our 'wearable toile'. We will discuss fabrics and what will work well for you and the sewing pattern.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eSeptember 16\u003c\/b\u003e - The sewing begins with our toile, starting with the bodice! We will hopefully be able to try the bodice on before the end of the session.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eSeptember 23\u003c\/b\u003e - We continue with the toile, sewing the trousers. We will work on both centre front seams, darts and tucks and then move onto the pocket construction. We will 'finish' the trouser legs, ready to sew our zips next week.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eSeptember 30\u003c\/b\u003e - Let's tackle the stage everyone fears but shouldn't - zips! Together, we will sew the 2 concealed zips into the trousers, then finish the 'wearable toile' by joining the trousers and the bodice. You will try on your jumpsuit before the end of the session!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eOctober 7\u003c\/b\u003e - We will begin by discussing common and personal adjustments to your toile and finish by adjusting both the paper pattern and the toile itself. This is a very useful troubleshooting session, particularly for your sewing-at-home confidence. I will show you how to analyse your project and how to change the parts you're not happy with.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eOctober 14\u003c\/b\u003e - Finally, we are ready to cut out the 'good fabric' (as we say in the sewing world!) based on the changes we made in the previous week.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eOctober 23\u003c\/b\u003e - This time, we start by sewing the trousers part of the boilersuit. We will finish once you get to the zips. Any spare time will be used to discuss sewing machines themselves and maintenance and how to maintain a good sewing workspace.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eOctober 28\u003c\/b\u003e - To give you the space to take your time and make mistakes, we have a whole session on sewing the zips into your good fabric. Don't forget to breathe! If there is time, we will also start the bodice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eNovember 4\u003c\/b\u003e - In this last session, we finish your boilersuit by finishing the bodice, then join the top and bottom halves by sewing the bodice and trousers together. We will also spend some time adding all the snap fasteners!
